Ana Paula CENTENO

Biography

Dr. Centeno is interested in a broad range of problems in Computer Science. Her past research areas included management of power, energy and temperature on data centers, and optimization to reduce the length of stay of patients in emergency rooms. Currently she is interested in computer science education, particularly on the impact of the current CS education practices on minority populations in the field.

She has led the revision of the CS department introductory course sequence to facilitate students’ transition through the sequence, reduce classroom intimidation, and increase women’s interest in computing.

Dr. Centeno chairs the Advance Women in CS‘s initiative to reduce the gender gap in the CS major at Rutgers.

She holds a B.S. (UCPel), M.S. (UFRGS and Stony Brook Universities) and Ph.D. (Rutgers University) degrees in Computer Science.
